BIG APPETITE VII HAS US HUNGRY FOR MORE
Along with another year, comes another long-awaited event that has been a mainstay of the 21st Intima Adventure Club. If you love food, and if you want to push the very limits of your belly, then BIG APPETITE is just for you.
Every year, Big Appetite returns to excite the people of INTI.
Simply put, Big Appetite is an eating contest that brings in over 100 participants every time.
The event held on the 14th of March is categorized based on a set game or food type.
This year the categories were Cold (Eating cold foods), Spicy (Flaming hot tongue melting food), Duet(A group of two feeding each other), Individual, and the ever popular Group of Fives.
Participants were given a humongous platter of food where they must either finish all the food, or finish the most within the set time limits.
This year, I had the opportunity of joining the contest itself, taking part in the duet category with a colleague, Foo Wei Le.
During my turn, Wei Le and I were served a mountain of sausages and stacks of bread. Needless to say, it wasn’t pleasant having a man shove his sausages down my throat.
Since the category only allowed teammates to feed one another and not themselves, it took a lot of coordination and teamwork. We ended up in third place, out of three teams, that is.
Another exciting and expected element of Big Appetite, has and always will be waiting for someone to pour out their stomachs. Because of that, I stayed vigilant and made a vomit counter.
The first puke came from the spicy category followed by the Duet category. Three more came from the individual category, making it five. By time it got to the groups, there had been too many for me to count.
Aside from the main contest, the event was also filled with performances from the Glee Club and a dance K-Pop United. Audiences were also involved with various audience food games throughout the night.
With the group category beginning, the audience was on fire as there were screams and chants for the groups.
Group participant Afnan, who has joined three years in a row stated that he was nervous as it was his final chance to participate in the event.
Each group having to finish one dish before moving on to the next, watching them swallow foods faster than a starving lion.
When asked on his thoughts of the event, Organising Chairperson, Reuben Sebastian said that it was a long running tradition to host Big Appetite and that INTI culture wouldn’t be the same without it.
“People love food, people love eating, it’s the best thing there is” quoted Reuben.
