The Power of Italy’s Three

With data gathered throughout cyberspace via fashion search engine Lyst, this year’s second quarterly ranking has been released. From approximately 12 000 brands, designers and shops browsed by 5 million shoppers worldwide, only 10 brands remain triumphant, five of them being Italian. Below are three of the hottest Italian brands currently in the market: 1. Gucci Synonymous with the double interlocking G insignia, red and green stripe and leather goods, Gucci is now raking in the moolah at number one, beating Balenciaga. The GG logo belt is currently the trendiest accessory to have, worn by stars such as Kendall Jenner and Alexa Chung. Gucci is renowned for its quirky and wild sense of fashion, with clashing prints, grim historic references and bright colours. Their latest collections featured severed heads in the operating room and a macabre, graveyard fashion show.

2. Fendi When Nicki Minaj released her hit single Chun-Li, referencing the Fendi prints she wears featured in her song cover, the Italian brand under Karl Lagerfeld caught the eye of today’s trendsetters. Repetitive logo prints are now popular as brand recognition become a staple in today’s fashion scene along with Fendi’s signature furs and tailoring.

3.Versace

From being referenced in pop songs like ‘Versace On The Floor’ by Bruno Mars, to being showcased at this year’s Met Gala, Donatella Versace’s constant vision of female empowerment and loud Italian fashion is making headlines. Known now for its vintage motifs, vibrant tartan and prints and pop references, the brand is becoming the mode of Italian streetwear, facing competition from its rival Dolce & Gabbana.
