THE ACADEMIC AWARDS ARE HERE!
INTI IU, NILAI: The March 2017 Academic Awards Ceremony took place at the Tan Yew Sing Multi-Purpose Hall here last Tuesday, celebrating those who completed their foundation year and students who achieved excellent grades.
The evening’s main attention was drawn onto the President’s List, with 45 students of various programmes receiving the prestigious award, given only to those who achieve a 4.0 in their last semester’s GPA.
Among those was Anna Victorine Azie, who’s currently studying Biotechnology. The student in her ninth semester, Anna, felt proud of what she had achieved.
“I feel very proud,” she said, emphasizing there’s no secret recipe towards her success, but only hard work and sacrifices that define how she got a 4.0 last semester. “And family support,” Anna added.
The international student said her results did not come easily. Last semester Anna took 7 subjects with 19 credit hours in total.
“Some subjects have many, many chapters,” Anna recalled, showing her credit hour summary from last semester. “Medical Biotechnology has around 15, 16 chapters or so, and that’s about average of the number of chapters in other subjects that I took.”
Among the other recipients of the evening were the Dean’s List. An estimated number of 493 students were among recipients of the award. The list, which comprises of students with a 3.5 and above GPA score regardless of programmes, recorded a high number this semester, with the highest from Bachelor of Science (Hons) Quantity Surveying, outnumbering other programmes with 70 names printed in latest edition of the Academic Awards Ceremony handbook.
“I feel great,” Civil Engineering student Ng Jin Piao said. Recording a 3.56 in his GPA last semester, he said paying attention in class alongside regular revisions gets him where he is now.
“Group studying also helps,” said Jin Piao, who’s currently about to embark on his second internship. “During Year 1 and Year 2 I used to study in the library, but after Year 3 started I began to switch places and study in a group.”
Also in the ceremony, 71 foundation students were among those presented to receive their conferment and award of certificates for the August 2016 session, with students from Foundation in Business Information Technology (Business Pathway) comprised the largest number of recipients, 28 in total.
