DOTA 2
Defense of the Ancients (DOTA) had a humble beginning before its extension, The Frozen Throne, came out. The developers of the mod Ice Frog and Pendragon then moved on to Valve work on the game.
Though the game’s beginning was small, it has become one of the most played games for the past few years: with its rise to fame now becoming an E-sport league game which the likes of ESPN would cover.
DOTA is a mobile defense arena game in which you control a special character or hero, each with unique attributes and abilities.
The hero you pick will determine your playing style, and each hero has their own back story which is not very well explained in the current iteration of the game.
The hero types vary from the role they play, ranging from melee heroes to ones with different attributes such as Strength, Agility, and Intelligence. Each attribute increases as you kill enemy creeps and other heroes to level up your own.
The core gameplay is basically waves of creeps from both sides marching to the other and by destroying the towers to get near the Ancient, gaining experience and money to level up and buy items as you advance. These items are essential for progression, and it will tip the battlefield in your favor.
The reason for DOTA’s success is that it is a very team-oriented sport. No one player can singlehandedly carry an entire team, although many would beg to differ.
