Leg workouts are a nightmare.
Especially if you have to walk a distance straight after the workout or the next day. Most gym goers skip leg day precisely because it is too tough and somehow, physically less rewarding in terms of appearance.
In addition to the intense pain in your legs, you can’t really see anything that is eye appealing like to pump on your chest after a chest day. So why do leg workouts, anyway?
I’m here to tell you about the magic of training legs happen more on the inside than the physical appearance.
1. You will become a better athlete.
According to a well-known personal trainer, Jen Sinkler, “a well-developed lower body will allow you to exert a maximal amount of force in a minimal amount of time, which in turn makes you faster and more explosive.” This can help you excel in sports like badminton and Frisbee.
2. Lowers risk to get injured
Doing functional exercises like squats and lunges can improve knee stability and minimize injuries when playing sports.
3. Burns more calories
Training bigger muscles in multi-joint exercises like deadlifts and squats required more energy from the body and can increase higher levels of metabolism.
4. Increases endurance
Leg weight training can help strengthen the muscles around your hips. This allows you to run faster and longer.
5. Increases efficiency in everyday tasks
Stronger legs are better than stronger arms in picking up boxes and moving furniture because it allows you to squat down and pick things up more efficiently.
It might be tempting to ditch the gym the minute you’re done with cardio. But the price of hard work and perseverance will do wonders to your self-esteem and your fitness.
