Sneakers Running Dry?

On the 22nd of March, highsnobiety.com , a very popular modern culture site, released an article titled, “The Best Sneakers of 2017 (SO FAR)”
The list without ranking order:
· COMME des GARÇONS x NikeLab Vapormax
· Nike Air Max 10G “30th Anniversary”
· ACRONYM x NikeLab Air Force 1 Downtown
· Stone Island x Nike Sock Dart
The most uniquely designed was the “Stone island x Nike Sock Dart” and yet even that looks like it’s been done before.
The fact that the whole list was filled with Nike products somewhat reduces the variety in “The Best Sneakers,” but other than that, it all seems plain.
Out of all five shoes listed, they all mostly seemed common and looked just like a rehash of many shoes we’ve seen before.
Even considering other brands, Vans, Converse, Puma, etc. it’s becoming sadly noticeable that even their most high-end shoes, the ones you’d see have their own red carpet, seemed somewhat plain or just a slight variation of a very highly used design formula.
I remember when the Nike Air 3.0 first debuted, I got the green ones for RM300, but my friend’s black one costed RM550. All that for a slight variation in colour.
Yes, I understand that many people see sneakers as a form of art, which is why every now and then you see some extremely uncommon designs that most of us can’t afford. Even then, sneakers we pass by in the stores seem like carbon copies.
What do you think? Is creativity running its course in the sneaker industry? Are good sneakers too pricy?
