The Student Forum for the January semester was held last week on the 21st of March, and many important complaints were recognized and responded to. The main topics that were mentioned include academic issues such as the update of the Blackboard mobile application, and some financial issues. Students demanded for a clarification as to why tuition fees were still charged during internship periods.
The topic of security matters were also brought up, such as the introduction of an ID Scanner, and stricter control over who enters the university, and the requirement for the Student ID to be shown.
The complaints regarding services related matters were also confronted, such as the issue with student helpers not getting paid even after 6 months after waiting, and also about the overpriced INTI bus fees, which are expensive compared to outsourced buses.
There were also the mention of increasing wages for student helpers, from 3.50 ringgit to 5 ringgit and the wages of lifeguards from 5 ringgit to 7.50. There were also some talk about AFM working an online system to get the parcels ordered by students.
INTI’s facilities were also discussed, and the main points were the lack of functioning computers, insufficient water heaters, some of them even not fully functioning or placed too high for students to reach, and the washing machines being problematic as it requires the old 50 cents. It was suggested to install more computers and repair malfunctioning ones, installing new heaters, and also introducing a coin exchange machine. It was also mentioned that the shade at the dining hall was actually leaking, resulting in students being unable to use the space when it rained. It was suggested to repair the shade and fix leakages.
The complaints about the attitudes of the staffs at INTi were also addressed. It was observed that the behaviors of some student station staffs and career services staff aren’t at their best, and international office staffs also had unpleasant attitudes towards international students. Student testimonies revealed they were sometimes ignored and treated rudely by the staff.
These issues will be hopefully be resolved and we anticipate the suggestions given to be followed through.
