AUP Gathering night

Freedom reigns at the barbeque pit, near the dining hall on 5/7/2018. AUP had a successful gathering night supported by its huge number of committees. At my arrival the club committees were so energetic that it sets the mood for any coming participants. The non membership participant fee was RM12 but joining their club can offer newbies a RM2 discount. As the event kicked off at 6:45 pm slightly late behind schedule as we all know punctuality when it comes to Malaysians, the club committees went ahead and started the games with only 8 participants.

A strong, engaging game masters was there to provide assistance for the newcomers. The participants were first hesitant to play along but a lengthy, offensive joke fueled ice breaking session did the trick. The games that we played were Guess the Name on the Card. We had to act out name or message by the card on our heads through giving hints to our partner, similar to that tension scene in Inglorious Bastards, minus the violence of course. The game ended somewhat haphazardly. But the second game is where the fun begins. A game of capture the flag was organized but with a classic twist on “Tag You’re It” hybrid. We ran around the field trying to defend and capture enemy flags.

After an hour of horsing around chanting ironic jokes, we were finally served food fresh from the barbeque pit. Have you ever tried Maggi seasoning marinated barbecued chicken? A surprise to be sure but a welcome one. Obligatory sausages on an American themed barbeque with a side of cakes and rose syrup. The Committee members were friendly and kept asking everyone if they had enough food or did they enjoy the event.

(Sweet, sweet barbeque. The lack of bacon is disturbing)

Vice chairperson Claudia Khaw said this event was actually held on the 4th of July in the United States. The goal of this event is to bring together all sorts of people from various backgrounds to experience the American Spirit which is enjoying good food and music while celebrating America’s Independence Day, in Malaysia. The event ended with 28 participants, a high number especially when the majority of May students went to internship. All in all I actually enjoyed this event and one of the few social events I’ve ever been to. So shout out to the AUP committee members for doing a good job on this event! Looking forward to see what new things the club can come up with!
